1. What is a Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy? 

A Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a method of therapy which uses near 100% oxygen and pressurized chamber. It is normally used to treat scuba diving condition known as decompression sickness. 

HBOT heals several conditions quicker than most as the pure oxygen promotes new cells generation and growth. Atmospheric pressure inside the chamber is also increased to two or three times to ensure that the compressed lungs breathe more of the oxygen.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Medicine Practitioners are trained to operate the hyperbaric machine and have extensive knowledge about the procedure. 

Additionally, they are also required to have patient management skills and knowledge on emergency procedures.

5. What to expect during a hyperbaric oxygen therapy session?

​​During the first visit, hyperbaric oxygen medicine practitioners may ask about the symptoms that you are currently experiencing. It is very important to tell everything in detail as it can help practitioners determine the corrent duration and atmospheric pressure during the sesion. 

Typically, a HBOT requires 10 - 15 session at the minimum for it to work effectively and fully heals. each session may take about 2 hours with three times increase of atmospheric pressure. 

There are two types of hyperbaric chambers: 

  • Unit designed to accommodate only 1 person - typically used for more specific cases
  • Larger unit designed to accommodate several people - this is normally utilized for generic purpose. Ranging from skin treatments to diabetes wounds
