1. What is a pediatrician?

Pediatricians are practitioners who are responsible for diagnosing, treatment and managing the health of children including babies, infants and teenagers. They are trained to deal with childhood illnesses which include physical, mental and behavioural issues.

2. Why should you consult a pediatrician?

Pediatricians are specialists that deal and have specialised training in the health of children, they had qualifications and studied in a specialised field. It is an option to see a paediatrician as they can also look after the whole family. You or your child can see a peediatrician.

3. What are the different types of specialisations?

There are several types of pediatric specialists, these include:

  • Paediatric dentists – checking the oral health of children.
  • Optometrists/ophthalmologists – the eye health of children.
  • Gynaecologists – checking young women’s gynaecology issues.

There are other specialities such as allergist, endocrinologist, dermatologist and child psychologist or psychiatrist.

4. How much do pediatricians in Dubai charge?

Depending on your insurance provider, you may be able to claim some of the costs for a paediatric appointment. The costs for a consultation is between AED 100 - 500. Make sure you find out the treatment you are going through with your paediatrician for a detailed cost breakdown.

5. What are the top treatments available?

Paediatricians are similar to general practitioners, they can analyse and treat common diseases such as flus, fevers and coughs. They also perform annual physical exams, disease control and prevention. You or your child can also see a paediatrician for health checks.

6. What to expect during a visit?

Depending on the symptoms and disease you or your child is experiencing, the paediatrician will perform a general physical exam. Once they have determined the symptoms and disease, further examinations will be performed. There may be a need for blood tests or samples.

7. Do I take my child to a pediatrician or a general practitioner?

It is your choice whom you want to take your child to. However, we recommend seeing a paediatrician if your child is unwell. Paediatricians are trained to diagnose childhood diseases; they undergo special education and training in this specialised field of handling childhood diseases.
