In the UAE, it’s easy to say things such as air quality and water quality may be the cause. And although they are, some factors cause hair fall in women. The good news is, there are ways you can slow down hair loss as well as improve your condition, so you don’t have to suffer for it any longer. In this article, we’ll discuss how women can prevent further hair loss.
Why Do Women Lose Hair?

There are many reasons why women lose hair. Just like men, women can also notice hair shortage on certain patches of their heads as well as thinning. It’s important to know the difference between hair fall and breakage as both signify the causes and factors that are affecting your hair and what you need to be doing.
Hair breakage is when a part of your hair splits because it is dry and brittle. Hair fall is when your hair completely falls out from the root and is a more serious cause for concern as hair breakage is quite common and can be improved easily.
Reasons why hair fall occurs in women include:
- Nutrition deficiency and poor diet
- Hormonal changes
- Using harsh or damaging hair care products
- Excessive exposure to sunlight
- Poor hygiene
- Genetic factors
We all know the stresses and anxieties of hair loss for women. Although a lot of the reasons and causes of hair loss are out of our control, there’s a lot of things we can do and change to improve our condition. The only thing we need to do is try! With that being said, here are a few things women can consider to prevent and decrease hair loss.
How to Prevent Hair Loss

1. Check up with your doctor
As soon as you notice that hair fall, breakage or thinning, speak with your doctor. Even though you might think it’s a minor health concern not worth bringing up to the doctor, you can still seek advice as they will be able to identify what the main problems and causes are as well as what you can do to improve the condition. Your doctor can also prescribe you with medication depending on the causes.
2. Topical medication
Your doctor may be able to advise you and prescribe you on topical medications that can help. A common topical medicine used for hair fall is Rogaine.
This over the counter topical medication contains an active ingredient called minoxidil which can help to stimulate hair follicles and promote growth. This topical medicine can be used as hairspray or as a mousse that is massaged into the scalp. Topical medications are often used as a solution for hair thinning.
3. Massage your scalp
Massaging your scalp well is something a lot of women overlook. Whether it’s doing it as a routine separate thing or when applying hair products onto the scalp.
By rubbing your fingertips, stroking the roots of your hairs and gently pressing on your scalp, this can improve circulation in the scalp and promote hair growth. Doing this once a day, a few minutes at a time can help to promote hair growth as well as reduce stress at the same time.
4. Consider essential oils
Essential oils are very popular and are used in a lot of Haircare products, including shampoos, conditioners, and serums. Oils such as lavender, rosemary, carrot seed, and cypress, to name a few, all have regenerative and restorative properties to help promote hair growth. A few drops of this oil and massaging it onto your help can help promote thicker and stronger hair.
5. Focus on your nutrition
Nutrition is an important part of healthy hair and skin and maybe a strong underlying reason why you may be experiencing hair loss. People who are nutrient deficient or have poor dietary habits are at a higher risk of hair loss.
Make sure you eat foods that are rich in vitamins, minerals, proteins, and essential fats. Iron and zinc are also known to promote better health and skin, so be sure not to miss out on their natural food sources.
6. Manage stress
Stress is something that sometimes is just completely unavoidable. Everyone stresses and it’s normal. Although more research is needed to identify the cause and effect relationship between stress and hair loss, the hormone imbalance and blood circulation from stress can affect the growth rate of your hair and may also be causing hair loss. Practice meditation, yoga and ways you can reduce stress.
7. Light and laser therapy
Laser therapy and treatment has been used for decades to help people with hair growth issues. Treatments such as red light therapy, cold laser, and biostimulation are only some of the many treatments you can seek. Be sure to speak with your doctor first before any procedure or treatment.
