Remedies to Control and Prevent Dry Scalp
1. Aloe vera

2. Coconut oil
Coconut oil is known for its skin health benefits and has been widely used for years. Not only do people use it for skin, but it also works exceptionally for the scalp.
Coconut oil contains antibacterial and antifungal properties that can reduce the risk or inflammation and infections from occurring due to a dry scalp. Apply a small amount of coconut oil to your scalp and massage into the roots. After leaving it on for 10 minutes, wash out with water.
3. Apple cider vinegar
An ingredient that has found its way onto many of our lists, apple cider vinegar can work wonders for a dry scalp. Known for its antibacterial and anti-inflammation effects, apple cider vinegar can exfoliate your scalp, prevent itchiness and irritation as well as decrease flaking.
Firstly mix it its water and massage into your hair and scalp and let it sit before washing off in the shower, accompanied with a good shampoo and conditioner.
4. Olive oil
Applying olive oil into hair is one of the most popular home remedies people use to moisturize their scalp. Olive oil is known to increase moisture in the scalp, preventing flaking, itching and the shed of dandruff. It is also commonly mixed with baking soda before being applied onto the hair as baking soda contains antibacterial and antifungal properties to combat the effects of a dry scalp.
Olive oil can be applied directly onto the scalp before being massaged into the roots of your hair. Let it sit for 10 minutes before washing off with water. You can add baking soda in equal amounts to get its great effects.
Avocados aren’t just great to eat, but they’re also good at protecting and maintaining healthy skin as a topical product. The monounsaturated fatty acids and polyunsaturated fats in avocados help to hydrate and replenish skin.
Use avocado oil and mix with a carrier oil such as olive oil or coconut oil before massaging it onto the scalp. Let it sit for 10 minutes before washing out with water.
6. Witch hazel
Like apple cider vinegar, witch hazel is an anti-inflammatory and has been historically used as herbal medicine. Witch hazel contains powerful and effective astringent properties that help to soothe and decrease the symptoms of a dry scalp.
Witch hazel can be bought in liquid form and mixed with a carrier oil. Massage into the roots and scalp before washing out. Witch hazel can also be found in some of the ingredients of shampoo, soaps and hair care products.
7. Jojoba oil
Similar to coconut oil, jojoba oil has a strong anti-inflammatory profile and can work as an effective moisturizer for the scalp. It can help with the management and aid of seborrheic dermatitis as well as skin irritation and itchiness.
To use jojoba oil, add a few droplets into your shampoo and use the shampoo as per usual. This is also a great idea if you feel your shampoo does not usually have your hair feeling hydrated.
