Remedies to Remove Coffee Stains on Teeth

Brushing with baking soda is quite common for people who have stains in their teeth or are trying to whiten them. Baking soda contains natural whitening products, making it a common ingredient in many teeth whitening products.
As baking soda is a mild abrasive, it can help to scrub away the stains on the surface of your teeth. On top of this, baking soda can create an alkaline environment in your teeth and prevent further bacteria growth.
2. Use Hydrogen Peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide is often used as a disinfectant for wounds to kill bacteria. However, it can also be used as a natural bleaching agent for your mouth as well as improving the appearance of teeth.
This can help with kill the bacteria and plaque in your teeth. Many commercial teeth whitening products contain hydrogen peroxide. However, more research needs to be conducted on the effectiveness of hydrogen peroxide’s effectiveness in removing stains in teeth and its whitening effects.
3. Apple Cider Vinegar
A very popular multipurpose product, apple cider vinegar is an effective disinfectant and natural cleaning product. It is also safe to use for your teeth and can effectively kill bacteria in your mouth.
Many people use it as a mouthwash as it can help to clean your teeth, as well as promote whitening effects. Apple cider vinegar has enough acidity to break down plaque build-up and bacteria to break down coffee stains. Just be mindful if you have sensitive teeth and to not use it too often as apple cider vinegar is quite acidic.

Becoming very popular in recent years, activated charcoal powder has become a popular product for people looking to remove coffee stains and whiten teeth.
Supposedly, the activated charcoal powder can pull toxins from the mouth and remove stains from teeth in the process. Activated charcoal can be bought in powder form, brushed in your teeth before risking out and brushing with toothpaste as per normal.
5. Eat Fruits and Vegetables
A diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables isn’t just good for your general health, but can also do a whole lot of good for your teeth as well. Biting on crunchy, raw fruits and vegetables, they can help to rub off the plaque build up on your teeth as you chew.
Strawberries and pineapple, in particular, are known to help whiten your teeth, although more research needs to be done on how true this may be.
6. Visit the Dentist
A visit to the dentist is the best thing you can do for your teeth. Though the above tips may help remove coffee stains from your teeth, they are not sure proven ways that will work.
The only way you can be sure about the condition of your teeth and that you are treating them properly and to the best effect is to speak with a dentist. You should visit the dentist every twelve months. They will also be able to identify if there is another underlying condition with your teeth that may be causing tooth discolouration.
As with almost all things to do with health, preventative action should be considered well before treatment. Here are things you can do to prevent coffee stains, or any stains on your teeth for that matter:
- Brush your teeth consistently and thoroughly
- Avoid eating or drinking foods that are dark in colour
- Avoid sugary foods
- Do not eat or drink foods after brushing your teeth at night
- Floss and mouthwash
- Drink with a straw
Keep in Mind
Taking action sooner rather than later will help you remove stains to the best effect. Don’t wait until the condition of your teeth becomes severe as at that point, it may be more difficult to treat.
If none of the above remedies works, you may want to seek advice from a dentist. They will be able to provide you with the best treatments available as well as the best advice on how to look after your teeth.
