Here are eight eye care tips you can do to protect your eyes while working on a computer screen.

1. Work in a bright set room

Your eyes can become strained if you are staring into a bright computer screen, yet your entire environment is dark. This causes the eye to focus only on the light and becomes dehydrated, becoming strained in the processed.

Ensure that your room is well lit. Not too bright, and not too dark either. Open up the blinds or turn on the lights. So when you go to take a break from the computer, your eyes can easily adapt to the environment.

2. Get sufficient rest

Make sure you’re sleeping well at night as this is the time your eyes use to recover, rehydrate and rest. Lack of sleep can lead to dehydration in the eyes, making them sensitive, red, as well as becoming sore very quickly.

If you don’t have the opportunity to sleep much at night, take breaks in your day and close your eyes for 10 minutes at a time.

3. Wear the right pair of glasses

If you wear glasses, it’s essential to make sure you are wearing them whenever you need to. By forgetting to wear your glasses while working on a computer, your eyes can become strained by staring hard and difficulty viewing small details on a computer screen.

Make sure you get your check-up with the optometrist when its due or when you notice your vision becomes blurred in your current glasses.

4. Get your eyes checked up

This is an important step that many people overlook. Eye health is one of those things that people don’t get checked up because we use every day and don’t notice the slight deteriorations in our vision.

You should be seeing your optometrist once a year. If your prescription glasses do not get updated when they should, your eyes will suffer, and so will your eye health.

5. Eat healthily

Foods that are high in vitamin with plenty of minerals and proteins can significantly benefit your eye health and overall vision. Foods such as fruits and vegetables don’t just preserve your eyes and keep them hydrated.

They also contain properties that can improve your sight. Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish are also known to boost vision.

6. Adjust your display settings

This is an absolute imperative step if you work long hours behind a computer. It’s important to adjust the setting in your computer ugh as brightness and text size.

These small changes can help you not only stay productive while you work but can also prevent your eyes from becoming strained or weak.

7. Take breaks

Whether you’re working, watching a movie or playing a game, it’s good to pause whatever you’re doing, move around and engage in another activity that doesn’t require your eyes to focus. Doing this once every hour for 10 to 15 minutes is enough to make a difference.

8. Blink often

Blink whenever you can. When people are too focused and stare at a screen for too long, they tend not to blink, This will make your eyes extremely dry, and when you do end up blinking, you can feel the physical strain.

You should never let your eyes get to that point. Remember to blink often while you are on the computer as it will help to keep your eyes hydrated.
